Outreach Coordinator – Contractor Position

The Sustainable Agriculture Education Association (SAEA) is seeking an Outreach Coordinator to help us achieve our communications and outreach goals as a national organization dedicated to teaching and learning about sustainable and just food systems for all. These goals broadly pertain to membership communications, website updates, conference outreach, and promoting the principles of Equity affirmed by our members. The Outreach Coordinator is a contracted position for one year, with the possibility of renewal. Additionally, the coordinator will serve as a member on the SAEA Steering Council by participating in monthly conference calls (currently, last Friday of each month 3-4:15pm EST) and will report to the SAEA Chair/Vice Chair. The contractor will be responsible for developing, managing, updating, and/or responding to the following:

Primary Responsibilities:

Website Management:

  • Frequent updates to the WordPress site include:
    • Brief “profiles” highlighting key leaders in sustainable agriculture education
    • Images and information reflecting new content
    • The Program Listings Database
    • The Curriculum Database (working with the SAEA Curriculum Database Committee)
  • Supporting transition to new website platform (coordinating with a web designer)

Social Media Outreach:

  • Create and implement social media posting plans to expand SAEA’s visibility and impact on our existing platforms, including:
    • Facebook page and group (as necessary)
    • LinkedIn Group (as necessary)
    • Twitter account
  • Explore and suggest new social media outreach strategies

Newsletter and Membership Management:

  • Solicit content from SAEA Steering Council to create and email monthly or quarterly newsletters to SAEA Membership
  • Managing lists and communications through various tools and platforms (for example, Google Drive and MailChimp)
  • Explore other email outreach services

Secondary Responsibilities:

Conference, workshops, and gatherings communications:

  • Work with SAEA Steering Council and conference & workshop host organizers to develop and implement coordinated communications strategy
  • Participate, as needed, in conference calls between host institution and SAEA conference subcommittee
  • Circulate and manage Requests for Proposals (RFP) widely on listservs and social media
  • Develop conference webpage hosted on SAEA site
  • Solicit SAEA Steering Council to create and maintain a list of relevant sustainable agriculture, food systems, and agriculture education programs, events and conferences

Additional Outreach:

  • Coordinating partner entities (e.g. regional non-SAEA conferences or marketing opportunities
  • Developing and disseminating outreach materials
  • Requests for information, including phone and email inquiries.
  • Standardization and management of SAEA protocol for institutional alliances, including facilitating Steering Council discussion on submitted applications

Preferred qualifications and experiences include:

  • Strong background in the field of sustainable agriculture education and/or environmental, food, or farm justice
  • Experience with and knowledge of WordPress, social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), Google Drive, etc.
  • Previous organizing and outreach experience
  • Ability to collaborate with others around the country while working remotely
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Ability to be self-directed and accomplish tasks in a timely fashion


Funds available for these services range between $480 and $600 per month, for a 12-month period, and beginning with a 2-month trial period. . We estimate the time commitment at roughly 5-7 hours/week most weeks and 10 hours/week leading up to the national conference (May-July).  Please note, this is not an employee position, and we do not provide an office, computer, or internet access.
